Embracing island living, Kimpton Kitalay Samui opens as the brand’s first resort in Southeast Asia
Are you craving a Vitamin Sea infusion? Are you being mistaken for a ghost in the workplace or do you find yourself lingering a little too long in the tropical fruit aisle? We get it, it seems like an age since any of us went anywhere, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start planning for that eventual release from national lockdown and we think we know when you should start your research.
Kimpton Kitalay Samui, the first resort in Southeast Asia for IHG Hotels & Resorts’ trend-savvy boutique brand, has officially opened its doors on Thailand’s luxury playground.
Located on Choengmon Beach in the northeast of Koh Samui and just minutes away from the Koh Samui International Airport, Kimpton Kitalay Samui spans double-tiered, stilt-suspended platforms, offering an enchanting fusion of contemporary design and traditional accents. Local Thai design agency P49 Design has integrated rustic wooden elements from repurposed driftwood, nostalgic verandas, and pieces by local artwork by Thai artisans. Add earthy palettes and wave-inspired terrace furnishings across the resort’s 138 design-led rooms and pool villas, and you have your own little slice of tropical paradise.
Within these guest rooms, you’ll find handwoven ocean blue cotton robes custom-designed by local Samui tailors, and oversized bathtubs with signature sea salt and patchouli-scented bath amenities by HARNN.
You’ll also dine well thanks to Kimpton Kitalay Samui’s five distinct and immersive dining outlets, which include Lanai, which offers a journey of discovery through finely-curated coffees, including Thai single origin coffee, artisanal teas, and locally-produced spirits; Fish House, an elevated all-day beach house offering a range of classic seafood flavours; and SHADES Ocean Lounge and Pool Bar, home to refreshing poolside cocktails and beach events.
You’ll be able to recover from said events the next morning at HOM Baking Company, with its extensive range of creative baked goods, confectionery, specialty teas, and cold press juices; or with a visit to Pimãanda by HARNN, the resort’s contemporary spa, home to a 24-hour gym and indulgent wellness treatments.
