Make the most of the fleeting summer months with Hakuba Hong Kong’s new alpine alfresco cocktail lounge.
There’s just something about being outside that says “this is the life”, wouldn’t you agree? Whether you’re out hiking, taking to the slopes, camping, or just soaking up the warm night air with a well-made drink, the only thing better than alfresco living is alpine living. Fortunately, a Hong Kong bar, inspired by the peaks of Japanese, has created a little après-ski pleasure in the heart of Causeway Bay.

Dubbed Hong Kong’s first ‘lodge bar-themed concept’ (and we’re guessing they’re probably right), Hakuba is the creation of three outdoor enthusiasts who also have a shared passion for the Land of the Rising Sun. Taking cues from the alpine lifestyle of Nagano (and its name from one of the country’s most popular ski destinations), Hakuba lounge is located at Tower 535 and features both indoor and outdoor spaces, the former akin to a ski lodge, and the latter themed around seasonal camping trips.

The Nippon influence continues to the cocktail program, with signature drinks featuring an assortment of Japanese flavours and ingredients, with some created in collaboration with other Hong Kong bars, and others made in house. Try the coffee-laced Breakfast in the Alps, a blend of rum, Teara Hojicha liqueur, buckwheat syrup, and chocolate bitters, pairs with a glass of milk to create a balanced ‘start of the day’ libation.

Alternatively, gin lovers can order the Purple Ski, with sake, lavender rose syrup, lemon, eff white and Akori cherry blossom gin; or try the rift on the G&T, the Morning Dew, with shiso liqueur, Italicus bergamot liqueur, and citrus, best matched with bar snacks that include fried dumplings and popcorn chicken.

The lounge will also feature regular guest bartender shifts, with Paul Chan of Dr. Fern’s Gin Parlour and Purfume Trees Gin’s Kit Cheung first in the blocks for October.
We can smell the pine trees already.
