Garrya Tongsai Bay Samui has opened on Thailand’s party island of Koh Samui but it’s not full moon parties that will draw you here.
We’re suspecting that, by the time you read this, you might be in need of some tender loving care of the holistic variety. The first free New Years since the pandemic broke across the world, chances are you hit it pretty hard and are now looking more to your resolutions and less to your revelling. Well, you’re in luck with the arrival of Garrya Tongsai Bay Samui, a new wellness resort on Thailand’s favourite party island.
Part of the Banyan Tree Group’s newest brand, Garrya Tongsai Bay Samui sits on 11 hectares of blissful coastline and infuses its guiding principles – Self-care, Slow Life, Sleep & Rest, Simplicity, and Savouring (as in food) – into every element of your stay.

A total of 74 of the resorts 82 suites and villas feature signature outdoor baths with views, while all come with more luxurious amenities than you can shake a wellness stick at (there’s even a few with private pools). And when it’s time to start undoing some of the damage of 2022, you’ll find the 8lements Spa a sympathetic space where secluded spa cottages give access to everything from authentic Thai massages to open-air milk baths.
As the sun sets, the place to be (perhaps after a session in the Exercise Room) is the adult-only Half Moon Pool, one of the resort’s two swimming pools, which offers spectacular views of the bay and total tranquillity.

It’s the perfect setting from which to choose where you’ll dine; Rhoy Rhoy! serves unpretentious Thai cuisine with a courtyard featuring beautiful sea views; while Fish Tales is all about local seafood; and EVOL serves nutritionally-balanced and wholesome meals, including vegan options, with majority of ingredients coming from the resort’s own garden and local farmers.
We couldn’t think of a better start to a new Covid-free year.
