Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl talks about how he ended up in Seattle, a city that continues to inspire his work.
Despite now splitting his time between Virginia and Los Angeles, Dave Grohl and Seattle go hand in hand. The dynamic force behind acclaimed rock band Foo Fighters still has a spot in his heart for the Washingtonian capital, which has long been associated with some of America’s leading grunge and rock groups.
From his first trip to the Emerald City, Dave Grohl knew the city was a place meant for him. Long after his days with Nirvana, Seattle still remains close to Dave Grohl’s heart. Now, a new promotional film celebrates his relationship with the city, a defining period of his life in the city, discovering himself, experiencing heartbreak, and creating new-found success.
Dave’s short film is part of a larger project of videos called Dear Seattle produced as part of the Visit Seattle and SundanceTV partnership. The tourism organisation will be rolling out six films throughout the year from notable filmmakers Dave Grohl, Josh Taft, Megan Griffiths, JJ Augustavo, and one additional filmmaker to be announced.
Visit Seattle, with their agency of record, PB&, is the first and only destination marketing organization to partner with IFC on a collaboration of this kind. As part of the Visit Seattle and SundanceTV partnership, the tourism board sponsors a film prize – the IFC Seattle Story Award – for filmmaking.
“We’re excited to be a part of this year’s Film Independent Spirit Awards for the first-time knowing that entertainment-based content is a rich and powerful way to share the city’s story,” says Ali Daniels, Senior Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer of Visit Seattle, “the Emerald City is one of the most creative destinations in the world and we are proud to create a great home for filmmakers, artists and artisans to shine. We are honored to have such talented people bring the beauty of Seattle to life in their work”.
