Atari, one of the world’s most iconic consumer electronics brands, has created a retro-inspired gaming and entertainment system that’s going to bring tears to your nostalgic eyes.
The Atari VCS was recently unveiled, along with Classic Joystick and Modern Controller prototypes, with units available for purchase from May.
Inspired by the iconic silhouette of the original Atari 2600 Video Computer System we all loved, the new system is a skillful blend of modern lines and reverential details, combined with contemporary content technology and new innovation.
While the new system will be able to serve up tons of classic content from the 2600 era, it’s very much a modern device for today’s savvy user. Powered by a Radeon graphics processor, and features HDMI, USB and Ethernet ports as well as an SD card slot, the Atari VCS boasts a stylish black veneer and faux wood-grain finish ensuring touches of the past as well as the present in its design.
The device will be powered by a Linux operating system and will feature a host of pre-installed gamed, with additional titles downloadable.
The Atari VCS will come complete with a Classic Joystick and a ‘modern’ controller with a typical console layout.
