Anantara Kihavah, a heavenly retreat in the Maldives, has just revealed the largest private pool residences in the archipelago, just in time for your 2021 travel plans.
When we think of destinations we’d like to visit as the world emerges from the Covid-19 pandemic, the Maldives tends to get top marks. It’s remote, blissfully tropical, cocooned from the world by the expanses of the Indian Ocean, and populated by the kinds of resorts where privacy and comfort trump crowded buffets, casinos, and waterparks.

And if space has become the new commodity in the post-pandemic world – and we suspect it will – Anantara Kihavah’s sprawling new pool villas should be at the top of your personal travel wish list.

The resort, a 45-minute seaplane flight from the international airport at Male, has launched a collection of the nation’s largest private pool residences. These indulgent enclaves, which range from two to four bedrooms, have just emerged from a comprehensive renovation, making them ideal destinations for you and a few well-chosen cohorts.

Inspired by the natural beauty of the island, which is encircled by a pure white beach, the renovation of the residences saw the careful preservation of space while marrying light and airy new interiors – think Kajan thatched palm roofs, Balai hardwood floors, natural Sukkabumhi stone, and turquoise accents – with smart technology.
The most recent to emerge from their facelift is the clutch of 1,500-sqm two-bedroom overwater pool residences, which are perched over the lagoon and offer floor-to-ceiling windows, a full kitchen, separate living and dining spaces, and a private infinity pool for those IG moments (and don’t act like you won’t start filming as soon as you arrive).

The refresh also saw a gym packed with TechnoGym equipment added, as well as a couple’s spa suite, the perfect spot for a signature Anantara Spa treatment (or two) during which you can find Nemo through glass panels in the floor.

Of course, if two rooms simply isn’t enough, then the 2,000sqm four-bedroom residence might be a better fit. Set on terra firma, complete with a standalone master suite, with its own pool and dining pavilion, this spectacular residence caters to up to eight adults and four children (or just 12 adults looking for fun under the sun). Like the overwater residences, the beachfront villas feature locally-inspired architecture, newly-extended swimming pools (now with massage jets), a private gym and spa suite, and sizable Thai-style salas for those alfresco dinner parties.

With a dedicated Villa Host to attend to every need and a wine sommelier, personal chef and even a babysitting service on request, all you have to do is enjoy your escape from the rat race, and the year that was.
