Anantara Opens on Malaysia’s Desaru Coast

Looking for an excuse to disappear somewhere warm, sunny and hospitable, perhaps with someone equally exotic? The new Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas opens up a whole new Asian destination for jet set gents.

What’s not to love about Malaysia? Great people, great food, great weather, and that exchange rate, it’s like that scene out of Euro Trip! If you needed a little additional nudging towards your next Malaysian foray, it’s arrived, in the form of Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas, the brand’s first luxury hotel in Malaysia and one of the first resorts on this pristine and virtually undiscovered coast.

Located on 17 glorious kilometers of South China Sea-facing beachfront, and a two-hour drive or ferry trip from Singapore (you can also travel from Malaysia’s Senai Internation Airport in Johor Bahru) the new resort has a little seclusion for every traveller; there’s 108 guest rooms and suites, including 90 beautifully-appointed guest rooms overlooking the gardens, lagoon, and ocean and laced with local indigenous touches, and 12 stand-alone double-storey one and two-bedroom pool villas, clustered around the lagoon.

In addition, if you’re travelling en masse, the five expansive three and four-bedroom residences offer space and privacy in equal measure and come complete with a private infinity pool, butler service, and a full kitchen.

Of course, this is Malaysia so you’re going to eat well, with the resort offering a gastronomic nod to fresh coastal dining, with guests able to experience everything from grilled seafood and steaks at the signature Sea.Fire.Salt restaurant, through to Malaysian classics at The Turmeric – you can even opt for Dining by Design, which lets you set up a table for two pretty much anywhere you can imagine.

You’ll also have access to two swimming pools, a comprehensive fitness centre, an Anantara Spa and the two manicured courses of The Els Club Desaru Coast, some of Malaysia’s best golfing.
