In a city with a serious shortage of alfresco venues, Hong Kong’s newest rooftop bar, Above by Komune, is a breath of fresh air.
If you’ve been looking for an excuse to explore the galleries and private kitchens of Wong Chuk Hang (and you should), we may have found suitable motivation. Above by Komune, a dynamic new rooftop bar, and terrace, has opened atop the chic Ovolo Southside hotel, offering innovative mixology and a new perspective on Hong Kong Island.

Offering unparalleled views over the island’s southern coastline and lush mountain scenery, the new venue offers a rare respite from the city’s hustle and bustle as the neighbourhood’s only rooftop bar.
The cocktail menu by Cocktail Professor is a little light on punch and a little heavy on Instagramability but the Longevity Tree Sap, a blend of bourbon, oregano, housemade pine needle, and black tea syrup might hit the spot.
You can also sate your appetite with a menu by chef Alvaro Ramos that includes Iberican secret pork with piquillo peppers, parmesan cheese, and balsamic sauce; and baby yellow chicken with truffle mashed potato.

In addition to the panoramas, Above by Komune will host a curated events programme – ranging from beer festivals to Sounds from Above, a pioneering music event featuring a new DJ each Sunday – that promises to inject fresh energy into Southside.
