Who wouldn’t want a timepiece that promises to be as rugged and iconic as the Land Rover? Introducing REC Watches’s latest RNR collection.
Many of us love watches, whether they’re minimalist, design-driven pieces or complicated chronographs produced by esteemed manufacturers. However, the best thing about a watch is when it has a story. It might have been passed down through family lines, it might have a special significance to you personally, or it might carry with it a little piece of history, like a museum for your wrist. The newest Road Not Required (RNR) timepieces from REC Watches are a little like that.

Watch brand REC has made a name for itself repurposing vintage autos for your wrist wearing pleasure, from Porsche 911s and Mini Coopers to Ford Mustangs and even a Spitfire from WWII. The brand’s RNR collection now sees striking timepieces crafted from ‘upcycled’ Land Rovers.
The collection consists of two models, the Rockfighter, limited to 463 pieces, and the Beach Runner, limited to 552 pieces. We’ll leave it up to you as to which fits your personality. Each timepiece is designed around a 40mm steel square case, which secures within an automatic Sellita SW200 or SW290 movement.

However, it’s the dial that makes these watches so unique; each is crafted from two specific Land Rovers – the Rockfighter from a 2003 Land Rover L322 once owned by Michael Ortner, who runs 4×4 adventures in Germany, and the Beachrunner from a 1981 Series III Land Rover owned by Portuguese photographer and filmmaker, Daniel Espirito Santo.
You’ll also find subtle references to the iconic 4×4 within the watch design, ranging from the square shape of the case to a tread pattern on the bezel, hands reminiscent of a compass, and a 22mm strap inspired by those that hold vintage Land Rover hoods in place.
It’s the next best thing to owning your own Landy.
